Missouri Secretary of State Corporations

The Missouri Secretary of State Corporations is composed of three independent units. The Corporations Division is responsible for managing and overseeing the establishment and operation of more than 300,000 businesses in the State of Missouri. If an individual wishes to create a business entity in Missouri, it must complete the necessary documents and file these documents with the Corporations Unit of the Missouri Secretary of State Corporations.

If a company has registered as a domestic corporation in another state but wishes to operate in Missouri, it must register as a foreign business entity with the Corporations Unit. A business or corporation cannot operate in the State of Missouri unless it is registered with this Department. However, business creation is not the only responsibility of this organization.

In addition to overseeing the production of business entities, the Missouri Secretary of State Corporations has a unit dedicated to maintaining relevant documents and a unit responsible for processing and issuing personal property liens. Both of these units play an important role in the regulation of business entities in the State of Missouri.
